wii tennis tips…
so i just played another {several} games of wii tennis.
my pro score is now 1927.
never cheated in any way, just played and played and plaaaaaaaaaayed til i figured out all the moves that help you win. here are some of the things i can think of off the top of my head:
that ridiculous cross-court slow serve return that kills you every time…
first thing you need to do is learn how to power serve so that never happens -to- you.
just flip the remote up so the ball gets tossed up, and as it hits its highest point, flick your wrist. off it goes, zoom zoom. watch out for the returns on these, however. they come zinging back at you as fast as you sent them zinging off the other way.
now…
so now in order for you to unleash the cross-court return on them - here’s what you do. generally this works best as a forehand shot - so when they’re serving across the net to you as a forehand shot for you. {mostly righties}. as the ball bounces near the back corner of the court, bring your arm back a ways and just as you’re going to hit it, flip your wrist so the remote faces the ceiling, and you have to sort of make a “u” shape with the remote. and give it a good wallop. it needs to have some force behind it. if you master this, the ball will bounce in the far opposite corner, usually right where the opponent back there is standing. most times it lands too close to them for them to hit it back. other times it will land too far up for them to get to in time… until you start playing against opponents with pro scores of something like 1400+.
there will be times when you’re in a great volley with the opponent - and they start zinging spinners at you {balls that, when they hit the ground, bounce in wacky directions}. when you realize they’ve started doing this to you, it’s important to use your front man to hit the ball before it has a chance to bounce. that way you avoid the fury of the spin. to do this to them, just flick your wrist and have it face the ceiling or the floor as you hit the ball. you’ll have to play with this one while you’re playing another person standing next to you so you can look over on their side of the screen and see what the result of your swing was. just practice it and you’ll get it.
play against yourself. {why you’d want to is beyond me}
when you get to the screen where you choose 1, 3 or 5 games, just click on the two players opposite you with the big question mark on them. both of those players will also become you - you grab 2 remotes and play yourself. a word of advice - do not attempt this after you’ve been drinking. it’s very difficult even with a sober mind. and with a drunk mind, you’ll be pretty sure you’re going insane.
how avoid negative score rankings…
i’ve not done this, in fact i just learned of it a few minutes ago.
when you play a round of tennis, and if you’ve sucked at it pretty badly, if you press the home button and quit the game before your pro score status comes up, it won’t render the points taken off that you should have subtracted.
intense volleys - and how to come out ahead in them…
you’ll notice that as you volley with another player {when playing the computer} usually the ball eventually starts going diagonally in returns. and the back player is almost always the one handling these shots. well you should watch your own player {front or back, whichever is returning these hits} to see at what point they switch hands {forehand/backhand} and when they do take a mad swing at the ball - flicking your wrist toward the opposite corner that the opponent is standing. so, in other words, switch direction the ball goes - and they’ll have to run the entire width of the court to chase after it. if you slam it down hard enough, there isn’t anyone that can get there in time.
racket’s lined up the wrong way and you keep hitting it out?
this happens to me all the time. my front man will stand up close to the net very far off to the left side of the screen. with the racket in the right hand. well the ball comes your way… and generally you’re going to whack it out of bounds if you swing at it with any force. lightly tap it and the ball will go straight, and stay in.
